PARKE Co., Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A young girl rescued from Big Raccoon Creek has died according to the Bellmore Volunteer Fire Department.
Clay County Coroner Nick French on Monday identified the victim as an 8-year-old from Brazil, Ind., according to an AP report.
Around 1:34 p.m. Sunday, witnesses reported a female juvenile struggling in Big Raccoon Creek in Mansfield.
The fire department crew, along with Indiana Conservation Officers responded after the girl went underwater near the Mansfield Covered Bridge.
According to the Indiana Department of Natural resources, conservation officers and other first responders rescued the girl. She was taken to St. Vincent Clay Hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating the incident.
They said no foul play is suspected.
